What Special Is About
Les writes parking tickets and lives alone. He joins a trial for a new drug and soon believes he has powers: he sees himself passing through walls, flying, stopping crimes. The camera shows something else, a man falling on the pavement and hurting himself. The film uses the superhero fantasy for sadness rather than entertainment, and what it is finally about is a man with nothing in his life who wants, at last, to matter. Michael Rapaport plays it without ever making him ridiculous. Eighty-one minutes, sold as a comedy and not one.
