Station Six-Sahara

Five technicians run a pumping station on an oil pipeline in the Sahara; they have nobody but each other and every day is the same. One night a car crashes into the empty fuel drums and breaks that order: out of it comes a divorced American couple, and the woman’s arrival upsets the balance of the station completely. Seth Holt builds the film not as a desert adventure but on what five men in a closed space do to each other and to the woman who has arrived. Brian Clemens and Bryan Forbes wrote the screenplay from Jean Martet’s Men Without a Past. It was shot in the Libyan desert, and Gerald Gibbs’s black and white photography was nominated for a BAFTA. Carroll Baker, Peter van Eyck, Ian Bannen and Denholm Elliott are in the cast. It opened in London on 26 September 1963.
