Straight Outta OZ

Todrick Hall sets his own life inside the frame of The Wizard of Oz. Made as a visual album, the film tells the road from where he grew up to the Broadway stage and to being known. What he met in the entertainment business as a gay black artist stands at the centre of the account. Each song carries a part of the story and the fairy tale frame holds them together. Nicole Scherzinger, Jordin Sparks, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Amber Riley and Tamar Braxton also appear. The account is not a text of complaint; it is built as the work of telling his own story in his own language. Across seventy one minutes the music is what carries the telling. The American film directed by Todrick Hall was completed in 2016.
