What Stranded: I've Come from a Plane That Crashed on the Mountains Is About
On 13 October 1972 a plane bound for Chile came down in the Andes. On board were a Uruguayan rugby team and people close to them. The survivors spent seventy-two days inside the fuselage at nearly four thousand metres. When the food ran out they had to turn to the bodies of the dead in order to stay alive, and in this film they describe that decision themselves. Gonzalo Arijón built the story entirely out of the survivors' own words; he had known most of them since childhood. Sixteen of them return to the crash site thirty-five years later. The film is neither a tour of horror nor a heroic narrative; it is people describing their own decisions calmly. It won the grand prize at the Amsterdam documentary festival.
