Summer Survivors

A young research psychologist agrees to move two patients from one psychiatric unit to another by the sea, in exchange for research access. The road is long, the car is small and three people are left with nowhere to hide from one another. The film puts neither the diagnosis nor the promise of recovery at its centre; it watches the journey and the speed at which people open up. It is Marija Kavtaradzė’s first feature, from her own screenplay. Indrė Patkauskaitė, Paulius Markevičius and Gelminė Glemžaitė lead, with Marija Razgutė and Klementina Remeikaitė producing. It had its world premiere on 7 September 2018 in the Discovery section at the Toronto festival, and opened in Lithuania in April 2019. The record gives the year as 2019, though the film was finished in 2018.
