Nina Conti's 2025 film follows Jane, who gets inside a monkey costume. Behind it she can be someone else, and she uses that to try to get away from a relationship that is harming her; on the road she meets Roy, a radio host contemplating suicide. The two set off in Roy's trailer. The narrative does not build this as a story of escape; each carries their own impasse and the plan they hatch makes matters more tangled. Conti comes from the stage and is known as a ventriloquist; costume and identity sit at the centre of the film. Some of the dialogue is improvised and the tone moves between comedy and darkness. Who it's for: those who like black comedy and unusual forms of telling. Who it's not for: viewers uncomfortable with suicide handled inside a joke.
