What Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda Is About
A man remembers his friend Manek Mulla, who had a gift for telling stories. One afternoon Manek tells a single love story through the lives of three women: Jamuna, Sati and Lily. Each story comes from a different class and a different point of view, and the teller himself shifts a little each time; the real and the invented run into one another. Adapted from Dharamvir Bharati’s novel of 1952, the film asks directly how love is tied to poverty and to where a person stands in society. Rajit Kapoor and Rajeshwari Sachdev appear in Shyam Benegal’s hundred and thirty minute Indian film, completed in 1992.
