What Sweet Mud Is About

In the middle of the seventies, twelve year old Dvir, growing up on the collective farm where he was born, is caught between two things: the principles of equality the community stands for and his relation with his mother. His mother’s position in the community is becoming harder and the members are moving towards casting her out. The boy wants both to protect her and to belong to the order he grew up in, and slowly understands that the two are not possible at once. The film neither exalts communal life nor condemns it; it looks at whom a community carries and whom it lets go. Tomer Steinhof plays the lead in Dror Shaul’s ninety seven minute Israeli film, completed in 2006.
