Tada's Do-It-All House

In Mahoro, an invented suburb of Tokyo, Tada runs a shop that will do anything a customer brings through the door. One day Gyoten, a classmate from middle school, turns up unannounced. Both men are past thirty and divorced, and Gyoten asks, with no explanation, to spend the night, then ends up working alongside him. From there the film moves through the town by way of the jobs they take, each one opening onto a different life. What the two of them have never discussed comes out at the same rate, which is to say very slowly. Tatsushi Ōmori directed, adapting the novel by Shion Miura that won the Naoki Prize in 2006. Eita and Ryuhei Matsuda take the leads. A television series with the same pair followed in 2013 and a second film in 2014.
