Take Me to the River

The documentary is about the music of Memphis. The city holds an important place in the history of soul and blues. The film follows the making of a new album. Two generations come together in the studio. On one side are the veterans from the Stax era. On the other stand musicians working today. The veterans pass on what they know to the younger ones. Inside the studio the lines of race and generation fall away. The history of Memphis itself is part of the account. The city produced a shared music through years of segregation. The film tries to rebuild the spirit of that period. Mavis Staples and Snoop Dogg come into the studio. Booker T. Jones and William Bell are part of it too. The narrator is Terrence Howard. Terrence Howard narrates the ninety five minute documentary. It was directed by Martin Shore and finished in 2014.
