Tarek's Situation

In this Egyptian comedy starring Ahmed Helmy, Tarek, who works at a telecommunications company, is asked by a wealthy businessman to track down a young woman, Sarah, accused of stealing something valuable from him. While carrying out the task, Tarek overhears one of Sarah's phone calls and recognizes her voice from a radio program he listens to regularly, then falls for her, lying to win her over before regretting it. Director Wael Ehsan's film, released in January 2006, arrived the same year as another Helmy vehicle, Matab Senaaei, continuing what was then a busy romantic comedy partnership between the two. Little detailed English language criticism or awards information exists for the film, and it holds a 6.9 rating on IMDb. Who it's for: Anyone curious about 2000s Egyptian romantic comedy and Ahmed Helmy's busiest stretch of that decade. Who it's not for: Not for viewers looking for deep critical context or background, since reliable sources on the film are thin.
