Telegrams

The film is set at the turn of the twentieth century. A local election is coming up. Two opposing sides go at each other tooth and nail to win it. One candidate comes from the conservative side. The other candidate is a radical liberal. Both of them find the way to win in the same place. The way is to sling as much mud as possible at the other. They do not have today’s means at hand. Instead they send each other telegrams. The telegrams set out the personal failings of the rival. The account is built on that war of telegrams. The film is put together as a political comedy. Grigore Vasiliu-Birlic and Costache Antoniu take the leads in Gheorghe Naghi and Aurel Miheleș’s Romanian film of 1960, which runs seventy six minutes.
