What The Enchanted Grove Is About
Six year old Lizuca, having lost her mother, is left on her grandparents’ farm with her dachshund Patrocle. Before long her father comes to take her to live with his new wife, a woman who regards children as the bane of existence. Lizuca escapes with the dog and spends the night inside a hollow tree; there the tree turns into an enchanted country and the girl moves among bees, frogs, the four seasons, Snow White and her dwarves and other figures out of fairy tales. That hidden country is threatened by the stepmother’s plan to sell the grove that shelters it. Gheorghe Naghi’s seventy five minute Romanian film was adapted from a novel; Diana Muscă plays Lizuca and it was completed in 1980.
