Tell Them Who You Are

The person who made the documentary is Mark Wexler, son of the cinematographer Haskell Wexler. He turns the camera on his father and confronts him with it. Haskell Wexler is well known in his work and not an easy man. The tension between father and son gets into the shooting itself; he keeps interfering in how the camera is used. The film moves as a portrait and as a reckoning at once. What it takes to get out from under the shadow of a famous father is the real subject. Jane Fonda, Martin Sheen and Michael Douglas are among those who speak. The account neither raises Haskell Wexler up nor cuts him down. Mark Wexler’s ninety five minute American documentary was completed in 2004.
