What Testament of Orpheus Is About

The final film of Cocteau's Orpheus trilogy, and it has no story in the ordinary sense. Cocteau plays himself: a poet moving outside time who meets figures from his own films, is put on trial by Heurtebise and the Princess, and is struck through the heart by Pallas Athena's spear. Not a narrative but a testament; the director says goodbye to his own images before his death. A great many references will pass anyone who has not seen The Blood of a Poet and Orpheus. Eighty minutes, running on dream logic. It was his last feature.
