What The Academy of Muses Is About
A literature teacher is running a project in his classes. It is called the Academy of the Muses and it draws on classical sources. Its aim is this: to remake the world through poetry. When he comes home his wife questions him about it; she distrusts what lies behind it. The arguments in the classroom turn into something else between the teacher and his students. Speech itself and desire become bound up in each other. The film keeps fiction and documentary inside the same frame. The talk is almost entirely what the work is made of. José Luis Guerín’s Spanish film of 2015 runs ninety two minutes.
