What The Adventures of Scamper the Penguin Is About
Lolo, a small Adélie penguin, likes going outside the colony in Antarctica. Although his father forbids it, he and his friend Pepe keep moving away from the shore; there are skuas above, leopard seals and men on the ground. One day they drift out to sea on a piece of ice and are caught by a ship collecting animals. Only one way is left to escape and warn the colony. It is a joint Soviet and Japanese production; Soyuzmultfilm worked with a Japanese studio and separate versions came out in the two languages. In the English release the characters were renamed, songs were added and some scenes were cut, so the two versions of the film are not the same. For a children's film the original shows death and hunting directly. The end, where the colony meets human hunters, arrives somewhere harder than expected.
