What The Auction Is About
Gaby has a sheep farm in Quebec called Bouchard and Sons. He has no sons; he has two daughters who live in the city and whom he raised like princesses. One day the elder one asks him for money so that a divorce does not cost her the house. Sébastien Pilote wrote and directed it, and has said he built Gaby with King Lear and Balzac's Père Goriot in mind. Gabriel Arcand's performance runs almost without words. It played in Critics' Week at Cannes in 2013 and won the SACD prize there. The subject is not farming; it is a man selling himself off in pieces.
