What The Big Steal Is About
Danny wants two things: a Jaguar and Joanna Johnson. Conned into trading his Nissan for a 1973 Jaguar, he sets about both winning the girl and settling accounts with Gordon Farkes, the sleazy car dealer. Nadia Tass's 1990 Australian comedy keeps teenage longing and the idea of revenge equally light, never hurting too much and never collapsing into farce. Ben Mendelsohn and Claudia Karvan play the young pair, both early in their careers. The car, as always in this kind of film, is the name for something else entirely.
