The Blood Is at the Doorstep

Dontre Hamilton lived in Milwaukee. He had been diagnosed with schizophrenia. In April 2014 he was resting in a park. A complaint came in from a coffee shop nearby. A police officer went to the park. The encounter lasted a few minutes. The officer opened fire and Hamilton died. He was unarmed. His family began looking for answers. They followed every step of the investigation and spoke in public as they went. What they asked for was accountability and change inside the department. The director followed the family for three years, and the film talks to members of the police force as well, so both sides are on screen. The title comes from a chant used at the protests. It premiered at SXSW in 2017. The ninety minute film is an American production Erik Ljung finished in 2017.
