The Blue Star

The Blue Star (La estrella azul), the debut feature of director Javier Macipe, is a Spanish film based on the real life of Zaragoza musician Mauricio Aznar, following his journey to Latin America to leave addiction behind and rediscover his craft. Aznar, in real life, led the band Más Birras and was a close friend and musical touchstone of Enrique Bunbury, lead singer of Héroes del Silencio; he died of an overdose in 2000. In the film, Aznar travels to Argentina following in the footsteps of his idol, folk musician Atahualpa Yupanqui, and discovers chacarera rhythms alongside real musician Cuti Carabajal. Bunbury read the script in its early stages and supported the director in finding producers, and appears in a brief cameo in the film. The film won the Youth Award at the San Sebastián Film Festival and received eight nominations at the 2025 Goya Awards, winning Best Director and Best New Actor.
