What The Boat Is Full Is About
During the Second World War Switzerland limited the admission of refugees severely, always with the same reason: the boat is full. A train from Germany stops briefly in a remote corner and six people jump off hoping for asylum: four Jews, a French child and a German soldier. They take shelter with a couple who run a village inn and pretend to be a family; the soldier is the husband, Judith his wife, an old man from Vienna her father, and his granddaughter and the French boy their children. The fabrication comes apart through chance and the careful investigation of the local constable. Markus Imhoof’s hundred and one minute Swiss film was completed in 1981.
