What The Boys in Company C Is About
Five young Americans are put through training in 1967 and sent to Vietnam. Between pointless fighting, the corruption of their allies and the incompetence of their own company commander they find a way out: if they deliberately lose a football match against a South Vietnamese team they can spend the rest of their tour playing exhibition games behind the lines. One thing gives the film weight: it came out in early 1978, ahead of most of the major Vietnam films. The drill sergeant here is a first version of a figure the same actor later made famous.
