What The Brandon Teena Story Is About
Brandon Teena was a transgender man who lived under his own name, and on the last night of 1993 he was killed by John Lotter and Tom Nissen in a farmhouse outside Humboldt, Nebraska. Lisa Lambert and Phillip DeVine were killed the same night, and the film refuses to file them away as two other people; their families speak here as well. Susan Muska and Gréta Ólafsdóttir went to the county and listened to everyone, including Brandon’s girlfriends, his relatives, the court officials and the two men convicted of the murders. The hardest thing in it is the audio recording of Sheriff Charles Laux questioning Brandon after he reported being raped, because what you hear is an investigation not happening.
