The City

The film tells the stories of four immigrants living in New York. All four have come from Spanish speaking countries. The parts stand independent of one another and are not tied to a common ending. Finding work, finding somewhere to live and language are the ground they share. The film shows what the city gives an immigrant and what it takes. The account makes nobody either a victim or a hero. Most of the cast are not known names. The eighty eight minutes are shared among four parts. The account keeps the four stories at equal weight and turns none of them into an example. Anthony Rivera and Joseph Rigano take the leads, with Leticia Herrera also in the cast, in David Riker’s American film, completed in 1999.
