The Classic

The film is built as an invented autobiography in which a writer flatters himself. The writer wants his book published as soon as possible, because only then can he buy the car he dreams of. That one wish sets everything in the account moving. The colourful people around him turn the story into a comedy. The film does not sanctify the writer’s trade; it sits it at the same table as the worry about money. How truthfully someone telling their own story actually tells it is a question standing inside the account. The work was adapted from a semi autobiographical novel by Kari Hotakainen. Martti Suosalo and Janne Hyytiäinen appear in Kari Väänänen’s eighty three minute Finnish film, completed in 2001.
