The Colonel

Colonel Raoul Duplan is found dead in Paris. More than twenty years have passed since Algeria won its independence. Lieutenant Galois is assigned to investigate the death. A diary comes into Galois’s hands. It belonged to Lieutenant Guy Rossi. Rossi served under Duplan in Algeria in 1956. He has been listed as missing since 1957. What is written in the diary goes beyond the frame of the investigation. Even what Duplan did there is small next to what it records. The text shows how the war was actually waged. The account moves back and forth between the present and the past. Olivier Gourmet and Robinson Stévenin take the leads, with Cécile de France and Charles Aznavour also in the cast, in Laurent Herbiet’s French, Belgian and Algerian coproduction of 2006.
