What The Comedians of Comedy Is About
Four stand-up comedians get in a van and tour America: Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis, Brian Posehn and Maria Bamford. The idea of the tour is to play rock venues and bookshops rather than comedy clubs, with no two-drink minimum and no brick wall. The camera follows them on stage, in the van, in hotel rooms and in half-empty rooms. What is funny is as much the talk between them as the sets; all four take their work extremely seriously and doubt themselves extremely thoroughly. Michael Blieden directs; a hundred and three minutes. A television series was made with the same group. It stands as a record of where American independent stand-up was at that moment.
