What The Dragon That Wasn't (Or Was He?) Is About
Oliver B. Bumble finds an egg with a tiny dragon inside it. The creature is charming, but it has a problem: every time it gets excited or upset it grows. Before long it no longer fits in the house, and then not in the town. Bumble has to choose between protecting the dragon and protecting the town. Harrie Geelen's Dutch animation is adapted from Marten Toonder's long-running comic strip. Bumble is a bear and Tom Puss a cat; the two were read for generations in the country. The film is hand-drawn and plays with language itself; expressions Toonder invented had entered Dutch. The tone suits children, but the wit works on adults too.
