The Fall of Italy

The film takes place during the Second World War. The setting is the islands off the Dalmatian coast of Yugoslavia. Italian occupying forces hold the islands. On the island there is a resistance made up of communists. Their aim is to sabotage the occupation and end it. A young man from a wealthy family joins them. He falls in love with a woman. It emerges that she is working for the Italians. When the affair and her activity come out, both of them are killed. The man who carries out the execution is the young man’s old friend. He is committed to the hard line of the resistance. Then he falls in love himself. The woman he loves is the daughter of a landowner on the island. That landowner has collaborated with the Italians. The film does not sort either side into heroes or monsters. Daniel Olbrychski and Ena Begović appear in the hundred and seventeen minute film, a Yugoslav production Lordan Zafranović finished in 1981.
