What The Fighting Lady Is About
The documentary follows one of the new aircraft carriers built after Pearl Harbor, and the name given to that ship in honour of all American carriers becomes the title of the film. The footage was shot in the combat zones themselves by the navy’s own crews. The film shows the ship and its pilots in their first action, in the Pacific in 1943. The account stands between a newsreel and a drama; the daily life of the men and the moments when aircraft do not come back are in the same record. Robert Taylor narrated the sixty one minute production by Edward Steichen and William Wyler, completed in 1944.
