What The Five of Us Is About
In Montreal, one of five young women who have been friends since childhood is killed during a weekend at a house by a lake; the girls had invited to their party the man whose car they took a ride in on the way to town. Fifteen years later Manon sees that man at a car wash and calls her old friends back to the same house. There the women have to speak about what they have not spoken of for years: who did what that night, who saw what, who has been blaming herself. The film does not stage the killing; it tells the weight carried by those left behind. Ghyslaine Côté’s eighty two minute Canadian film was completed in 2004.
