The Four Seasons

The Four Seasons is written, directed by, and starring Alan Alda, following three wealthy middle aged couples through midlife, marital, and parental crises across vacations spanning spring, summer, fall, and winter. Made on a budget of around 6.5 million dollars, it grossed 50.4 million dollars, making it the ninth highest grossing film of 1981; it was adapted into a short lived CBS series produced by Alda in 1984, and Netflix made a new series based on it in 2025. Who it's for: anyone curious about a classic comedy on midlife friendships and marital crises that later spawned both a TV series and a modern remake. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a youth focused comedy, since the film centers squarely on midlife crisis and the fatigue of long marriages.
