What Five Times Two Is About
The relationship between Marion and Gilles is told in five parts, running backwards. First comes the divorce and what happens that night; then a tense dinner where Gilles admits his infidelity, the premature birth of their son, the wedding, and finally the moment they met on an Italian beach. Because the order is reversed, each scene re-reads the one before it and the happy images become steadily more painful. François Ozon makes the structure itself the argument of the film. Valeria Bruni Tedeschi and Stéphane Freiss lead.
