The Giants

Seth and Zak are brothers, one fifteen and the other thirteen. They are spending the summer in their dead grandfather's empty house. Their mother keeps saying she is coming and does not, and the money is running out. They fall in with a local boy, Dany. To raise some cash they decide to rent the house to the drug dealer in the area. The plan does not, of course, go the way they imagined, and the three of them are left in the middle of a summer nobody is checking on. Bouli Lanners directs this Belgian film of eighty-four minutes. The camera wanders by the river, through the woods, among abandoned structures. There are almost no adults; the ones there are, are no use. It played in the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes.
