The Green Prince

Mosab Hassan Yousef is the son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, one of the founders of Hamas. At seventeen he is arrested trying to buy weapons. What he sees in an Israeli prison shakes him; inside, he witnesses what Hamas does to its own people. Then Israel's security service, the Shin Bet, makes him an offer, and Mosab accepts. For more than ten years he passes on information about the people around him, including his own father. What the documentary is really about is not that information but the relationship between two men: Mosab and Gonen Ben Yitzhak, the officer running him. Over the years what forms between them stops being a working arrangement, and Gonen ends up at odds with his own service. Nadav Schirman directs, and both men sit in front of the camera and tell it. Ninety-nine minutes. It won the documentary audience award at Sundance in 2014.
