The Happiest Millionaire

Philadelphia, 1916. Anthony Biddle is rich, devout and peculiar. He keeps alligators in the house, runs boxing training alongside his Bible classes, and teaches his sons to punch. John Lawless, newly arrived from Ireland, comes in as the butler and tries to work out how this household functions. The daughter, Cordelia, is tired of her father and of the house; no young man in the city will come near her because they are all afraid of him. Then Angier Duke appears, and for the first time the father has to let his daughter go. Norman Tokar directs the American film; two hours and forty-nine minutes, with Fred MacMurray as Biddle, Tommy Steele as Lawless, and Greer Garson and Geraldine Page in the cast. The Sherman brothers wrote the songs. It was among the last films Walt Disney worked on before his death.
