Follow Me, Boys!

Lem Siddons plays in a travelling band and now wants to settle down and study law. He finds work in the stockroom of a general store in a small town. To fit in with the place he volunteers to lead the newly formed scout troop. As the years pass the time he spends with the scouts grows, the plan to become a lawyer slides into the background, and Lem realises this is in fact his life. Norman Tokar's Walt Disney production tells the story of a town from the thirties into the sixties: the same man, the same town, and children who change generation by generation. Fred MacMurray plays Lem and Vera Miles his wife; Lillian Gish, the great star of silent cinema, is also in the cast. It is one of the young Kurt Russell's first appearances for Disney. The film makes small-town life far sweeter than it was, and does so knowingly.
