The Hatter's Ghost

A hatter in a provincial town. Everyone takes him for a sober, orderly, respectable tradesman. His wife has been bedridden for years and he looks after her well. He is also the man who has been killing women in that town. The only person who notices is Kachoudas, the tailor across the street, who is frightened, poor and in no position to speak. A strange, silent, steadily closer relationship starts between the two men. Claude Chabrol adapted the film from Georges Simenon's novel, with Michel Serrault as the hatter and Charles Aznavour as the tailor. Chabrol tells you who the killer is at the start; the tension does not come from finding out but from what the man who has found out will do.
