What The High Sun Is About
Two Balkan villages side by side, with an old ethnic hatred between them. The film tells three separate love stories a decade apart: in 1991, with the war about to break; in 2001, with the wounds still open; and in 2011, asking whether a fresh start is possible at all. The lovers in all three are played by the same two actors, Tihana Lazović and Goran Marković becoming different people in each part. Dalibor Matanić presents forbidden love as fragility and as stubbornness at once. It took the Un Certain Regard jury prize at Cannes in 2015.
