The Hitler Gang

The film traces Adolf Hitler’s rise in politics. It begins with a small time politician. It ends with the dictator of Germany. The story is built on the shape of a gangster picture. The men around him are shown as a gang. It was made while the war was still going on. Paramount presented it in a documentary manner. Its purpose was wartime propaganda. It nonetheless claimed to rest on documented fact. Care was taken over the uniforms and the architecture. The policies were gone into in detail. In places the history is simplified too far. Bobby Watson plays Hitler. The casting rested largely on resemblance. Roman Bohnen, Martin Kosleck, Victor Varconi and Walter Abel appear in the hundred and one minute film, an American production John Farrow finished in 1944.
