What The Indian Tomb, Part II: The Tiger of Eschnapur Is About
Rowland falls ill with leprosy while Mac Allan is taken prisoner by the Maharajah. The Maharajah puts a bargain to Irene: a night with her in exchange for letting Rowland be cured. She accepts, and then tries to take her own life. The film builds the offer not as a romantic option but as a demand made by someone who holds the power. The account belongs to German cinema of 1921; the view that presents India as a mysterious and dangerous decor is the film’s own, not today’s. It is the second film of a work in two parts. Conrad Veidt and Mia May appear in Joe May’s hundred and six minute German film, completed in 1921.
