What The Indian Tomb, Part I: The Mission of the Yoghi Is About
Ayan, the Maharajah of Eschnapur, believes his wife Princess Savitri has been unfaithful with the officer Mac Allan. He decides to bury her alive and wants a tomb built for the purpose. He sends the yogi Ramigani to England to find Herbert Rowland, an architect; but when Rowland understands what he has been called for, he refuses. The film belongs to the distant lands storytelling of German cinema in the twenties: large sets, crowded scenes and a way of looking that builds India as a mysterious danger. Conrad Veidt and Mia May appear in Joe May’s hundred and twenty seven minute silent film, completed in 1921.
