What The Irish Pub Is About
The documentary is about the people who run pubs in Ireland. Alex Fegan talks to the owners of bars all over the country, most of them handed down from one generation to the next, and they talk about their regulars, about the past and about the unwritten rules of the trade. The pub appears here not as a place to drink but as the institution where a town gathers and exchanges its news. Most of the older publicans are not sure the tradition will carry on, and the film does not hide that uncertainty. It builds no argument; it puts forward the words of the people speaking. The seventy five minute Irish documentary was completed in 2013.
