The Last Gangster

Joe Krozac comes out after ten years inside. He is looking for the money he hid before he went in and for the wife he left behind. But she divorced him long ago, married another man, and raised their son without telling him who his father was. His old gang wants the money too, and tries to use the boy to get at it. Edward Ludwig's film puts Edward G. Robinson back into a gangster part, but this time it does not end in triumph. James Stewart, early in his career, plays the newspaperman who married the woman afterwards. The telling does not make crime attractive; the real question is whose son the boy will be counted as. John Carradine and Lionel Stander are also in the cast.
