Adventure in Manhattan

A self satisfied crime writer becomes involved in the case of a famous art thief believed to be dead, while at the same time courting a young actress appearing in a play. The play itself is the cover for a large jewel robbery. George Melville, a connoisseur of art who works in criminology, is hired to track the thieves, with Claire Peyton beside him and a newspaper editor forever goading him from behind. The mastermind poses as a theatrical impresario and stages a war drama full of loud explosions, all to draw attention away from his men, who are cracking the safes of the bank next door to the theatre. Jean Arthur and Joel McCrea appear in Edward Ludwig’s seventy three minute American film, completed in 1936.
