The Great Muppet Caper

A Muppet film set in London. Kermit and Fozzie work as reporters at a newspaper. A famous fashion designer's jewels are stolen and they miss the story; to save their jobs they are sent to London to investigate. The joke starts with the two claiming to be twin brothers and keeps winking at the audience: the characters know they are in a film, talk over the credits and point out the holes in the plot themselves. In London Lady Holiday and her assistant Miss Piggy enter. Kermit takes Piggy for the designer and she does not correct him. The best-known sections are the musical numbers: the bicycle sequence and the underwater passage shot in a pool were among the hardest technical work of their time. The movement of the puppets, the crowd scenes and the way the camera sets the puppet world inside a real London are the film's strongest element. Jim Henson directed; it is the second film in the series. Among the best of its kind for anyone who likes family films and the Muppets. For a viewer expecting a serious narrative, the film mocks itself constantly and cares nothing about its plot.
