Flawless

A heist film set in London in 1960. Laura Quinn is the only woman executive at the London Diamond Corporation. She has been passed over for years and learns she is about to be removed. At the same time the building's night cleaner, Hobbs, brings her a proposal: take a small quantity of diamonds from the vault, a theft nobody would notice. She agrees. Then, in the morning, the entire vault turns out to be empty. The idea is less the theft than Laura's position: the order of the diamond industry, where women stand inside the company, and what being entirely unseen affords a person. Hobbs is a man nobody has looked at in years, and his plan rests on exactly that. Demi Moore plays Laura and Michael Caine plays Hobbs. Michael Radford directed. It opens with a framing device: an older Laura telling the story to a journalist years later. A calm choice for anyone who likes heist films and period atmosphere. For a viewer wanting tension it is slow and the mechanics of the theft resolve too easily; what is interesting are the scenes between the two actors.
