The Last Resort

In the seventies Miami Beach was another place. Old people lived in the small flats along the shore. Most of them had come from New York. The great majority were Jewish. Cheap rent and the sun had drawn them there. Two photographers began shooting that community. One was Andy Sweet and the other Gary Monroe. Sweet worked in colour and Monroe in black and white. For ten years they photographed the same streets. People sitting on porches, the beach, the dance nights. The documentary brings that archive together. People who knew the pictures speak. The story is a portrait of a community and of two photographers at once. That community is no longer there today. The seventy minute documentary carries the signatures of Dennis Scholl and Kareem Tabsch, an American production finished in 2018.
