What The Last Turning Is About
Frank, a drifter, ends up at a filling station and diner by the roadside. Nick, who runs the place, is an older, well-meaning man; his wife Cora is far younger and tired of this life. Frank does not care for work but takes the job, because from the first day he is taken with Cora. The woman, who hates her husband, before long asks him for help, and the two of them drive themselves somewhere there is no coming back from. Pierre Chenal’s ninety minute French film is the first screen adaptation of James M. Cain’s novel, before the versions by Visconti and Garnett. Michel Simon and Corinne Luchaire appear.
